  Alabama vs. Georgia In this contest, Alabama defeated a solid Bulldog squad by a score of 18-10 in Birmingham. Bama's first points came in the first on a safety after the Georgia punter dropped the ball out of the end zone. Johnny Davis would then score the Tide's only touchdown of the day on a 1 yard dive later in the first. Roger Chapman would provide the winning margin by hitting three field goals. The 1977 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, and with a victory in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
