  Alabama vs. Duquesne In the first intersectional game played at the Capstone since 1908 the Crimson Tide defeated Duquesne University 26-0 in front of 24,000 fans. Bill Cadenhead started the Bama scoring with a 6 yard run through the line. Monk Mosley scored the second touchdown with a 58 yard punt return. Norwood Hodges scored the third touchdown and Travis Hicks scored the fourth, both on dives across the goal line. Alabama out gained the Dukes on the ground by an amazing margin of 285-25 yards in this game. The Tide did not gain a single yard through the air going 0-2 passing on the afternoon. The 1947 squad finished the season 8-3 with an appearance in the Sugar Bowl for Harold "Red" Drew in his first season at the Capstone.
