  Alabama vs. Howard For the second week in a row the Crimson Tide played a game on campus and for the second week recorded a shutout, this time Howard was on the short end of a 31-0 score. Alabama scored one touchdown in each of the first three quarters and two more in the final frame. Jimmy Nelson came back from his injury and had a big game. Nelson intercepted a Howard pass on his own 12 and ran it back 88 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Paul Spencer also added 2 touchdowns for the third game in a row. Bama's other scores were recorded by Dave Brown and Don Salls. The 1940 squad finished the season with a record of 7-2 for Coach Frank Thomas.
