  Alabama vs. South Carolina Alabama and South Carolina met in Montgomery's Cramton bowl and the game is one Gamecock fans would like to forget as the tide pounded USC 55-0. 14,000 fans witnessed the massacre. Alabama used 40 players in the game. Fred Grant was the star of the game scoring 3 touchdowns. Other Bama scores came by Harry Gilmer, Lowell Tew, Norwood Hodges, and Lou Scales scored 2. As a side note South Carolina quarterback Ison made more than half of the SC defensive tackles. The 1945 squad finished the season 10-0, as SEC Champions and with a victory in the Rose Bowl for coach Frank Thomas.
