Alabama vs.Vanderbilt

  Date: 10/2/1926
  Score: 19-7
Alabama vs. Vanderbilt In this contest, the Crimson Tide defeated an always-tough Vanderbilt squad in Nashville by the score of 19-7. Vanderbilt's defense was ready to face an Alabama passing attack, but instead the Tide surprised everyone with a solid ground game that "should have been set to music" according to one columnist. After a series of fumbles and a blocked punt, the Tide recovered the football and started a drive capped by an 8 yard pass from Hoyt Winslet to Herschel Caldwell for the first score of the game. Red Barnes crossed into the endzone next with a 21 yard run around end. The second and third quarters remained scoreless and both offenses came back strong in the fourth. Vandy pulled the game to within one score early but a Caldwell to Winslett pass added the insurance score Alabama needed. The 1926 squad finished the season with a 9-0-1 record, as Southern Conference champions, and as repeat national champions for coach Wallace Wade.
