  Alabama vs. Tennessee Going into the fourth quarter, the Vols and the Tide were all tied up at 21. However, 21 fourth quarter points resulted in a 42-21 Alabama victory over Tennessee. Bama would score a pair of first quarter touchdowns on an 80 yard Gary Rutledge pass to Wayne Wheeler and on an 8 yard Wilbur Jackson run. In the second, Richard Todd would throw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Willie Shelby. After being shutout in the third, Bama would score a trio of fourth quarter touchdowns to win the game. These three touchdowns were scored on a 64 yard punt return by Robert Cary, an 80 yard Jackson run, and on a 3 yard Paul Spivey run. The 1973 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1 as SEC champions, and as National Champions for Coach Bryant.
