Tim Travis would score Bama's first points in the second on a 33 yard reception from Steadman Shealy. For the game, Major Ogilvie would rush for 109 yards and score two touchdowns. Both of these scores would come in the third on runs of 1 and 6 yards. The Tide would end the afternoons scoring in the fourth on a 13 yard Donald Jacobs touchdown run. The 1979 squad would finish the season 12-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
