  Alabama vs. Tennessee For the third time of the 2001 season, Alabama would give up a fourth quarter lead and lose to Tennessee for the seventh year in a row by a score of 35-24. Neal Thomas would score Bama's first points with his 26 yard field goal in the first. In the second, Tyler Watts would hit Sam Collins for a 29 yard touchdown reception. In the third, Bama would score a pair of touchdowns on a 6 yard Watts pass to Collins and on a 4 yard Ahmaad Galloway run to take a 24-21 lead into the fourth; however, Tennessee would hold the ball for over 13 minutes in the fourth and score a pair of touchdowns to seal the victory for the Vols. For the game, Santonio Beard would rush for 141 yards. The 2001 squad would finish with a record of 7-5 and with a victory in the Independence Bowl in coach Dennis Franchione's first season as head coach of the Tide.
