  Alabama vs. Tennessee After giving Tennessee a 3-0 lead early in the first, the Tide would go on to score 34 unanswered points and sink the Vols 34-3. Bama would score a pair of first quarter touchdowns on a 5 yard Mike Fracchia run and on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Pat Trammell to Butch Wilson. In the second, Tim Davis would hit a pair of field goals (35 and 31 yards) to give the Tide a 20-3 halftime lead. Bama would close its scoring in the third by scoring a pair of touchdowns on an 8 yard run by Billy Richardson and on a 1 yard Trammell run. Alabama's defense was the true star of this game, only allowing 61 total yards to the Volunteer offense all afternoon. The 1961 squad finished with a record of 11-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
