  Alabama vs. Mississippi State In this Homecoming 35-6 rout of the Maroons in Tuscaloosa, every player for the Tide saw action. The win was the first conference win of the season. Red Noonan scored the first Alabama touchdown after a fumble recovery on the Maroon 9 yard line. The Bama player of the game however had to be Ed Salem who in only five minutes of action was 3 for 3 passing with two touchdowns! His first a 49 yarder to Al Lary and another 20 yard pass. Other touchdowns were scored by Jim Burkett on a 1 yard run and J.D. Roddam scored after a fumble recovery set him up. The 1949 squad finished the season with a record of 6-3-1 for Coach Red Drew.
