  Alabama vs. Louisville Alabama needed to prove to the nation that their vicotry over a favored Southern California team two games prior was not a fluke and they did just that beating an out-manned Louisville team in convincing fashion 55-6. Alabama scored two touchdowns in every quarter and racked up 574 yards of total offense on the day. Ozzie Newsome started the scoring with a 67 yard pass from Jeff Rutledge and later in the quarter Donald Faust ran it in from two yards out. In the second quarter, Tony "Touchdown" Nathan ran it in from 71 yards out to score an amazing touchdown and later in the quarter Steven Whitman had his own rushing touchdown, this one a ten yard score. Ozzie Newsome cracked the scoreboard again in the third on a 32 yard pass from Rutledge and Keith Pugh scored on a 32 yard Kevin Jones pass to give Alabama 42-0 lead. Finally late in the third Louisville did get on the board but that was all they would get all day. In the final frame Steadman Shealy connected with Pugh on a five yard toss and finally John Turpin rushed it in from five yards out to complete the rout. The 1977 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, and with a victory in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
