  Alabama vs. Georgia Alabama simply had the better front line in this contest (Vaughn Mancha, Pat O'Sullivan, and Dick Flowers) and because of it the Tide was able to avenge its 1946 loss to the Bulldogs with this 17-7 victory. Alabama simply dominated the running game outgaining the Dogs 251-75 on the ground. Alabama scored both of its touchdowns on the ground. The first an 80 yard touchdown run by Harry Gilmer on the first play from scrimmage and the second an 83 yard scoring play started with a 53 yard run by Lowell Tew who lateralled to Bill Cadenhead who took it the final 30 yards. Hugh Morrow added the final points of the game on a field goal. Georgia was forced to go to the passing game once its running attack faltered and as a result Bama grabbed 3 interceptions. The 1947 squad finished the season 8-3 with an apperance in the Sugar Bowl for Harold "Red" Drew in his first season at the Capstone.
