  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi After the Golden Eagles managed to tie up the game at 7-7 in the second, Bama would score 35 unanswered points in a 42-7 blowout. In the first, Donald Jacobs would score on a 25 yard run. In the second, Charlie Williams scored on a 1 yard plunge, and this was followed by a Major Ogilvie fumble recovery in the endzone for a touchdown. In the third, Linnie Patrick scored on a 2 yard run. In the fourth, Jacobs scored on a 13 yard run, and this was followed by a 7 yard Scott McRae run to close Bama's scoring for the afternoon. The 1980 squad finished the season with a record of 10-2 and with a victory in the Cotton Bowl for Coach Bryant.
