  Alabama vs. Tennessee

The traditional "Third Saturday in October" game was changed a bit as the game was played on the 4th Saturday, but the Crimson Tide didn't seemed concerned as they traveled up to Knoxville and defeated the rival Vols 34-14. The scoring started with defensive back Gerald Dixon recovering a fumble and running it back 66 yard for the score. In the second quarter there was no scoring until the final minute until Santonio Beard ran for a 10 yard touchdown. However that touchdown was quickly answered by a kickoff returned for a touchdown but Alabama was still on top 14-7 at the half. In the second half Alabama came out firing again scoring ten points in each of the next two quarters. Kyle Robinson kicked a 27 yard field goal and QB Tyler Watts ran for a 2 yard touchdown in the third and in the final quarter Robinson Connected on another field goal and Santonio Beard scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1 yard run with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game. This win marked the first time Alabama had beaten Tennessee in 8 years (last win 10/15/94). The 2002 squad would finish the season with a record of 10-3 for coach Dennis Franchione in his final season at the Capstone.
