Alabama vs.Kentucky

  Alabama vs. Kentucky The Wildcats travelled into Alabama and then on down to Montgomery for this game and in front of 16,000 at night the Crimson Tide destroyed Kentucky 41-0. Alabama was helped greatly by three interceptions that led to touchdowns. Harry Gilmer scored first for Bama in the first when he faked a pass and ran back a 41 yards for a score. Alabama scored 3 times in the second quarter. Gilmer scored first with a 19 yard run, George Albright scored next off of a 32 yard touchdown which was set up by a Vaughn Mancha interception, and finally Hugh Morrow broke into the endzone with a Gilmer pass. In the third Fred Grant intercepted a pass that helped set up a touchdown by Ralph Jones off of a pass by John Hite, and the final score came off of of Hite interception. The 1944 squad finished the season 5-2-2 and with an apperance in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Thomas.
