Alabama vs.Georgia

  Date: 10/27/1945
  Score: 28-14
Alabama vs. Georgia The game features two of the best backs in college football as Harry Gilmer of Alabama took on Charlie Trippi of Georgia (both still considered among the best backs in southern football history) and Gilmer pulled the Tide though by the score of 28-14. Bama's luck began in the first minute of the game when they kicked off to Georgia on their own 17. Georgia fumbled on its first play and Bama had it on the 25. Gilmer connected with Hugh Morrow for the score. After a Georgia touchdown Lowell Tew connected with Fred Grant for a 9 yard touchdown to give the lead back to the Tide. However in the second half Georgia again tied it up at 14 but from then on it was all Bama. The winning margin came in the third quarter when Norwood Hodges plunged over the line for a short touchdown run and the insurance was provided on a Gilmer to Grant touchdown. The 1945 squad finished the season 10-0, as SEC Champions and with a victory in the Rose Bowl for coach Frank Thomas.
