Alabama vs.Mississippi State

  Date: 10/27/1956
  Score: 13-12
Alabama vs. Mississippi State After a string of 20 straight winless games Alabama finally was able to muster up a victory defeating the Bulldogs of Miss. State 13-12. It looks for a while as if 20 were going to become 21 but late game heroics prevented that from happening. State scored twice in the first half but failed to convert on the point after attempts that left the door open. Late in the half Jim Bowdoin caught a Clay Wells pass 49 yards out for the score which cut the lead in half and with 2:30 left in the game Wells rushed it over from 2 yards out and Pete Reeves kicked the extra point to give Bama its first victory of the season. The 1956 squad finished the season 2-7-1 for coach J.B. "Ears" Whitworth.
