  Alabama vs. Virginia Tech After being held scoreless in the first, the Tide would turn it up a notch, and defeat the Hokies by a score of 31-7 in Tuscaloosa. In the second, Bama scored on a 48 yard pass play from Donald Jacobs to Keith Marks, and again on a 14 yard Steadman Shealy run. In the third, Shealy would score again on a 6 yard run. In the fourth, Jeff Fagan would score on a 2 yard run followed by a 33 yard Alan McElroy field goal to end the afternoons scoring. The 1979 squad would finish the season 12-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
