  Alabama vs. Mississippi State Most of this contest was dominated by Alabama who allowed Mississippi State to gain just 12 total first downs and no total points until the fourth quarter. The scoring started off in the second when Steve Davis hit a 35 yard field goal and Wayne Trimble threw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Ray Perkins to give Bama the 10-0 lead. After only scoring on a 31 yard Davis field goal in the third, Bama scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns on a 48 yard Trimble pass to Jerry Duncan. Mississippi State finally found the scoreboard in the fourth getting its first points here. Those points were then answered by a 38 yard Trimble pass to Perkins. State scored once more late in the game but by then it was too late. The 1966 squad finished 11-0, as SEC champions, and with a win in the Sugar Bowl against Nebraska for Coach Bryant.
