  Alabama vs. Mississippi State The Tide jumped on the Bulldogs from the start in this 37-7 victory at Jackson. In the first, Bama scored on a 59 yard Tony Nathan run, and on a 1 yard Donald Faust plunge. In the second, the Tide scored on a 30 yard pass reception from Jeff Rutledge to Keith Pugh. Bama scored their final two touchdowns in the third on a 1 yard Johnny Davis dive, and next on a 22 yard Steadman Shealy run. The 1977 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, and with a victory in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
