  Alabama vs. Mississippi State The Crimson Tide came back to Tuscaloosa for its first on campus game of the season against the Mississippi State Maroons and the home crowd was not disappointed with the team as they defeated State 21-6. All of Alabama's points came in the third quarter. West Virginia native Russ Craft was the story in this game scoring all three touchdowns. Craft scored on runs of 3, 38, and 4 yards. State attempted a comeback in the final period but couldn't manage more than one touchdown. The 1942 squad finished the season 8-3 with a win in the Orange Bowl for Coach Thomas.
