  Alabama vs. Mississippi State The Tide's defense would lead the way in only allowing 180 yards of total offense to the Bulldogs in this 41-10 Alabama victory. After only managing a 20 yard Bill Davis field goal in the first, Bama would score a pair of touchdowns in the second. These second quarter touchdowns were scored on a 31 yard Terry Davis pass to Wayne Wheeler and on a 30 yard interception return by Steve Higginbotham. After holding the Tide scoreless in the third, State was not able to contain Alabama in the fourth. In the final quarter, Johnny Musso would score on a 1 yard touchdown run, Bill Davis would hit a 33 yard field goal, David Knapp would score on a 16 yard touchdown run, and Terry Davis would throw a 1 yard touchdown pass to Glen Woodruff. The 1971 squad would finish the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Orange Bowl for Coach Bryant.
