  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi With two losses already on the season Alabama now needed to win out the rest of the way if they wanted to be SEC champions. Everyone on the team knew this when Southern Mississippi came to town and they blew them out of the water 35-14. Shaun Bohanan scored first for Alabama on a 5 yard run midway through the first quarter. Ryan Pflugner added a 22 yard field goal later in the quarter to give the tide a 10-0 lead. In the second quarter, Pflugner added another field goal and Free Safety Reggie Myles intercepted a pass and ran it back 41 yards to give Alabama a commanding 20-7 half time lead. Shaun Bohanan added his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter and Freddie Milions ran a punt return back 65 yards to put Bama on top 35-7. Southern Miss added a touchdown in the fourth but by then it was much too late to make a comeback. The 1999 squad finished the season with a 10-3 record, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Orange Bowl for coach Mike Dubose.
