  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi A week after a loss to the Vols, the Tide rebounded with this 30-20 victory over the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi. Ryan Pflugner would open the scoring for Alabama with his 30 yard field goal in the first. In the second, Andrew Zow would hit Michael Vaughn for a pair of touchdown passes (33 and 62 yards), and Pflugner would hit a 34 yard field goal to give Bama a 20-7 lead at the half. In the third, Zow would hit Vaughn for a 1 yard touchdown reception, and Pflugner would hit a 22 yard field goal in the fourth to close the Tide's scoring. For the game, Shaun Alexander would rush for 141 yards, and Zow would pass for 361 yards and a trio of touchdowns. The 1998 squad finished the season with a record of 7-5 and with an appearance in the Music City Bowl for coach Mike Dubose.
