  Alabama vs. Notre Dame In this contest against the Irish, Cornelius Bennett crushed the Notre Dame quarterback Steve Beuerlein in perhaps the Tide's most famous defensive play, "The Sack," and Bama would be victorious 28-10. Alabama's first touchdown came in the first on a 66 yard punt return by Todd Richardson. In the second, the Tide would score on a pair of Mike Shula touchdown passes. The first was a 52 yard pass to Al Bell, and the second was an 11 yard pass to Howard Cross. Bama's final score came in the fourth on a 22 yard Shula pass to Bell. The 1986 Crimson Tide finished the season with a record of 10-3 and with a victory in the Sun Bowl in what would be Coach Ray Perkins' last year with Alabama.
