  Alabama vs. Kentucky The Wildcats of Kentucky would defeat Alabama for the first time since 1922 with this 40-34 triumph over the Tide in overtime. In the first, Curtis Alexander would score on a 58 yard touchdown run. In the second, Freddie Kitchens would hit Chad Goss for a 35 yard touchdown reception. In the third, Brian Cunningham would hit a 41 yard field goal, and Chad Goss would hit Quincy Jackson for a 40 yard touchdown reception. In the fourth, Kitchens would hit Curtis Alexander for a 6 yard touchdown reception, and Cunningham would hit a 37 yard field goal with only :08 remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. In the overtime, Goss would lose a fumble, and Kentucky would score to win the game. For the game, Curtis Alexander would rush for 120 yards. The 1997 squad finished the season with a record of 4-7 in Mike Dubose's first year at the Capstone.
