  Alabama vs. Georgia

After a heart-breaking loss to Arkansas the week before, Alabama dragged itself to Athens Georgia to play SEC east favorite Georgia and tough the Tide took an early lead the Bulldogs demolished the Tide 37-23. Alabama started the games scoring on its opening possession with Brian Bostick hitting a 42-yard field goal. From then on out, it was all Bulldogs however. Billy Bennett of Georgia scored the next 9 points for his team with 3 first half field goals giving Georgia a 9-3 lead early in the second quarter. Georgia would hit three consecutive touchdowns in the quarter to give the dogs a 30-3 advantage. Spencer Pennington, subbing for the injured Brodie Croyle, hit Dre Fulgham on an 18 yard pass with 4 minutes to go in the half bringing to the Tide a little closer, however before the close of the quarter the Bulldogs would add one final score giving them a 39-10 halftime advantage. In the second half Alabama did not go home without a fight as Charles Jones ran back an interception 30 yards for a score and Juwan Garth scored on a 10 yard fumble recovery. More bad news for the Tide came when Brodie Croyle was brought into the game in the second quarter despite having a separated shoulder to try and provide an offensive spark. The spark was however not provided and Croyle went down with an even worse injury to the shoulder. Backup Pennington was also later injured in the game leaving third string emergency quarterback Brandon Avalos the starter. The 2003 Crimson Tide finished the season 4-9 for head coach Mike Shula in his first season at the Capstone.
