  Alabama vs. Mississippi Alabama would open the 1928 season with a bang by defeating the Rebels of Ole Miss 27-0 in Tuscaloosa. Bama's Earl Smith would score the first touchdown of the 1928 season by returning a fumble 55 yards to the house in the first quarter. John Suther would also visit the endzone in the first on a 5 yard touchdown run. After an Ole Miss fumble in the second, Bama would capitalize on the turnover with a 17 yard Davis Brasfield touchdown run three plays later. Alabama would conclude their scoring in the third on a short run by Tony Holm. The 1928 squad would finish the season with a record of 6-3 for head coach Wallace Wade.
