Alabama vs. Kentucky A large homecoming crowd at Denny Field in Tuscaloosa saw a great matchup between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Alabama Crimson Tide and a hard fought game found Alabama on top 16-8 at the end. Bama got on the board first in the first quarter with a Ben Compton field goal. After a series of punts for both teams it was Bama again scoring on a short Pooley Hubert run for the 9-0 lead at half time. After a scoreless third quarter Grant Gillis intercepted a Wildcat pass and a few plays later had the ball on the 3 yard line where he ran it in for the 16-0 lead. Kentucky scored its only touchdown of the day next off of a brilliant 60 yard run and later in the game Alabama had a touchdown called back due to offsides which pinned them deep in their own zone and Hubert was knocked down for a 2 point safety. The 1923 squad finished the season 7-2-1 for first year coach Wallace Wade.
