  Alabama vs. Mississippi State Coming off their third loss in a row, the Tide was able to defeat the Bulldogs by a score of 24-17 to put the streak to an end. Santonio Beard would score on a 6 yard touchdown run in the first, and in the second, Neal Thomas would hit a 20 yard field goal. After a Tyler Watts injury, Andrew Zow would come off the bench to lead Bama to a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and the victory. Zow would hit Donnie Lowe for a 9 yard touchdown reception, and Beard would score his second touchdown of the day with his 14 yard touchdown run. The 2001 squad would finish with a record of 7-5 and with a victory in the Independence Bowl in coach Dennis Franchione's first season as head coach of the Tide.
