  Alabama vs. Mississippi The Mississippi Rebels came into Mobile to meet the Tide but Alabama was hungry after an upsetting loss to Georgia and they came away victorious 34-6. Just 8,000 fans saw the game. Bama scored its first points on its first possession going 90 yards with Fred Grant going over for the touchdown. Lowell Tew scored the next Tide touchdown with a 48 yard run. George Albirght found his way to the score sheet next when a 13 yard touchdown run. Mississippi scored its only points in the second quarter and in the fourth John Hite scored on a short 8 yard run. The final touchdown came late in the 4th quarter when Fred Grant intercepted a pass and ran it in 18 yards 3 plays later. The 1944 squad finished the season 5-2-2 and with an appearance in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Thomas.
