Alabama vs. Mississippi State The Crimson Tide were in a dogfight in the SEC western division with two losses and knew that with a win over the Bulldogs followed by a win over hated rival Auburn later in the month they would go onto the SEC championship game. Alabama met the challenge by defeating Mississippi State 19-7. Ryan Pflugner started off the scoring with a 40 yard field goal in the first half. After a MSU touchdown Shawn Alexander scored on a 6 yard run to give Alabama a lead it would never look back from. Pflugner added another field goal and Andrew Zow connected with Shamari Buchanan on a 37 yard pass to put Bama on top 19-7 and that’s the way they game would end. The 1999 squad finished the season with a 10-3 record, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Orange Bowl for coach Mike Dubose.
