  Alabama vs. Notre Dame The Irish destroyed the Tide in gaining 465 yards of total offense and only allowing 185 yards of total offense to Alabama in this 37-6 defeat of the Tide. Coach Curry summed up the afternoons performance by saying, "We were whipped by a vastly superior football team." The only Alabama points came on a pair of Philip Doyle field goals (34 and 28 yards). The 1987 squad finished with a record of 7-5 and with an appearance in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Coach Bill Curry's first season at Alabama.
