Alabama vs.LSU

  Date: 11/16/1923
  Score: 30-3
Alabama vs. LSU A rare friday afternoon game pitted the LSU Tigers against the Crimson Tide. The game was played on friday so as to not conflict with the Auburn-Centre game on saturday. As for this game LSU took an early 3-0 lead but from that point on the game belonged to Alabama. Ben Compton tied the game with a 20 yard field goal of his own and later in the quarter Compton recovered a Tiger fumble and ran it back for the touchdown. Another costly Tiger turnover in the second quarter led to the next Alabama core. Tom Newton intercepted a pass at the LSU 40 and ran it back for a touchdown. In the second half Alabama did not quite its intense play. Once again an interception led to this score. Pooley Hubert intercepted an LSU attempt and 3 plays later ran it through the middle for a score. W.C. Baty scored the final talley on a short run that capped an impressive 68 yard drive. The 1923 squad finished the season 7-2-1 for first year coach Wallace Wade.
