  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi The Crimson Tide defeated the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi by a score of 24-13. Albert Bell scored the first Alabama touchdown of the afternoon on a 5 yard catch from Mike Shula in the first quarter. The Bama offense went dry until the final quarter when Shula connected on another short pass, this time to Angelo Stafford to put the Tide on top. Gene Jelks added the final nail in the coffin with a four yard run late in the game to seal it for Alabama. The 1985 squad finished the season with a record of 9-2-1 and with a victory in the Aloha Bowl for Ray Perkins.
