  Alabama vs. LSU In what was a battle between two of the nations premier defenses, the Tide destroyed the Tigers by a score of 31-0 in Baton Rouge. After a scoreless first, the Tide would put the game away in the second with a pair of touchdowns. The first came on a 6 yard Santonio Beard touchdown run, and the second came on a 2 yard Tyler Watts touchdown run that capped a remarkable drive to close the first half. The Tide was shutout in the third, but they would score 17 fourth quarter points to put the exclamation point on a remarkable performance in the bayou. Fourth quarter points were scored on a 6 yard Beard touchdown run, a 46 yard Kyle Robinson field goal, and on a 27 yard Tyler Watts touchdown pass to Zach Fletcher. To add insult to injury, Alabama would amass an amazing 477 yards of total offense against what was then the nations number one defense with Beard rushing for 109 yards, Shaud Williams rushing for 115 yards, and Sam Collins having 115 yards receiving. The defense also starred in only allowing the Tigers 196 yards of total offense in earning Alabama its first shutout since 1997. The 2002 squad would finish the season with a record of 10-3 for coach Dennis Franchione in his final season at the Capstone.
