Alabama vs. Miami The Crimson Tide dominated the Miami Hurricanes in every sense of the word on this saturday afternoon scoring at least once in every quarter winning easily 43-13. Greg Montgomery blocked a Miami punt in the endzone for a Tide safety in the first quarter to start things off. Later in the quarter Gary Rutledge ran it in from 2 yards out to put Bama on top 15-0 after one. Rutledge connected with John Sharpless for a 69 yard touchdown strike for a 22-0 halftime lead. Miami finally got on the board in the third but James Taylor answered back with a 5 yard touchdown run. In the final frame John "Duffy" Boles returned a punt 62 yards for the final Alabama score of the game. Miami would tack on a touchdown late but by then there was nothing they could do with it. The 1973 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, as national champions, and with an appearence in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
