  Alabama vs. Miami The Alabama defense was the story in this contest in holding the Miami Hurricanes to just 131 yards of total offense and giving up just 8 total first downs in this 30-0 Bama win in Tuscaloosa. The scoring started with Steadman Shealy throwing it 56 yards to Tim Travis to put Alabama up 7-0 in the first quarter. Alan McElroy added his first of 3 field goals (24 yards) in the quarter to give Bama a 10-0 lead going into the second half. In the third quarter, Major Ogilvie scored on a 1 yard touchdown run to bring the margin to 17-0. In the fourth, McElroy would connect on two more field goals (25 and 40 yards) and James Haney would then score on a five yard touchdown run to complete the rout. The 1979 squad would finish the season 12-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
