  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi The Crimson Tide put on a show in the first half scoring five touchdowns to lead the Crimsons to a 34-26 victory over Southern Mississippi. The five-touchdown advantage allowed the Tide to play its reserves in the second. Ed Salem hit Ed White for the first 2 scores of the game on passes of 18 and 24 yards. Butch Avinger scored the third touchdown on a 1 yard run. Avinger scored his second touchdown of the game when he hit Al Lary for a 25 yard pass and the fifth and final touchdown came off of a 12 yard pass by Ralph Cochran to Charlie Davis. The 1949 squad finished the season with a record of 6-3-1 for Coach Red Drew.
