  Alabama vs. Mississippi State In this 44-28 homecoming victory over the Bulldogs, Gene Jelks became the first Bama player to rush for 100 yards (with 168 yards) and have over 100 yards receiving (with 120 yards) in the same game. Alabama opened the scoring with a 43 yard Van Tiffin field goal followed by a 1 yard Bobby Humphrey touchdown plunge in the first. In the second, the Tide would score three touchdowns. The first came on a 14 yard Humphrey run, followed by a 5 yard Mike Shula pass to Al Bell, and finally on a 21 yard Shula pass to Bell. In the third, Doug Allen would visit the end zone on a 3 yard run followed by a 22 yard Tiffin field goal. In the fourth, Tiffin would hit a 51 yard field goal to close the afternoons scoring. The 1985 squad finished the season with a record of 9-2-1 and with a victory in the Aloha Bowl for Ray Perkins.
