Alabama vs.Vanderbilt

  Alabama vs. Vanderbilt After a crushing loss to Georgia Tech the Tide needed to get a win and they found one in Birmingham against Vanderbilt 27-7. Johnny August started the scoring with a 10 yard run in the first quarter to give Alabama the lead they would never give up. In the second quarter Bobby Tom Jenkins got into the endzone with a 6 yard run. Alabama threatened once more in the quarter but were stopped on the 1 yard line by the clock. In the third quarter Dave Brown found the endzone for a 12 yard touchdown run and for the final touchdown Bill Baughman intercepted a Vandy pass and ran it back 45 yards for the score. Vandy scored its only points in the final quarter but it was too late to mount a real comeback. The 1942 squad finished the season 8-3 with a win in the Orange Bowl for Coach Thomas.
