  Alabama vs. Auburn Alabama closed a disappointing 1997 season with a heartbreaking 18-17 loss to Auburn on the Plains. Bama would get on the board in the second with a 13 yard touchdown pass from Freddie Kitchens to Calvin Hall. Chris Kemp would then convert a 32 yard field goal to close the first half. Shaun Alexander would score Bama's final points in the third with his 12 yard touchdown run. In the fourth, the Tide was holding a 17-15 lead, but Ed Scissum would fumble the ball late and Auburn would recover. The Tigers would take the turnover, and Jaret Holmes would hit the game winning field goal with only :15 remaining in the game. The 1997 squad finished the season with a record of 4-7 in Mike Dubose's first year at the Capstone.
