Alabama vs.Vanderbilt

  Alabama vs. Vanderbilt For the first time all season Alabama had a tough game to play as they took on the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville and barely squeaked by 14-6. Alabama dominated play in the first half while Vandy came back hard in the second. This game marked the end of the 1931 season. They Tide played Chattanooga in a December contest however it was a scrimmage game meant only for charity. However for this game John Cain scored the first touchdown in the first quarter on a short run and in the second Hilmon Holley scored the second on a 16 yard end run. Vandy scored once in the third quarter and almost scored again in the fourth but Alabama stopped them dead at the 4 yard line and ran the clock out from there. The 1931 squad finished the season 9-1 for coach Frank Thomas in his first season at the Capstone.
