  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi Southern Mississippi came into the Alabama game with the Number 1 defense in the nation but the Tide didn't care. Alabama racked up 348 yards, 19 first downs, and most of all 34 points to shut out the Eagles 34-0. After a scoreless first quarter Kenny Stabler connected with Ray Perkins on a 25 yard pass play for the first score of the game and later in the quarter Stabler hooked up with Wayne Cook for a 1 yard pass. In the second half Alabama added on 3 more touchdowns. The first a 13 yard David Chatwood run, the second a 55 yard pass from Stabler to Homan, and the final touchdown a 1 yard rush by Joe Kelley. The 1966 squad finished 11-0, as SEC champions, and with a win in the Sugar Bowl against Nebraska for Coach Bryant.
