  Alabama vs. Auburn With a win over Auburn the Tide would ensure them an SEC championship for the 1977 season. They did just that winning 48-21. Auburn Jumped out to an early lead with an 87 yard touchdown run but the Tide responded with four consecutive touchdowns. The first in the air from Jeff Rutledge to Bruce Bolton and the next three on the ground; the first a 12 yard run from Joe Jones and the next two short TD runs from Tony Nathan. Alabama would add three more touchdowns later; a 1 yard run from Mitch Ferguson; a 42 yard pass from Rutledge to Ozzie Newsome followed by a 15 yard run from Steadman Shealy. The 1977 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, and with a victory in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
