  Alabama vs. Florida In a battle in which the lead changed 3 times the Crimson Tide defeated the Florida Gators for Homecoming 34-28. After the Gators struck first the Tide engineered two scores capped by a Bill Abston run. With the Tide up a touchdown Florida scored twice more but Ed Salem of the Tide ran 32 yards for a touchdown to tie the game back up. Salem scored again in the fourth quarter to put the Tide on top for good and late in the quarter Charley Davis added the insurance points. In the Loss however the player of the game was Charley Hunsinger who scored all 4 Florida touchdowns most notably a 96 yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter that put the Gators within a touchdown but they were not able to score again and the Tide walked away with a wild victory. The 1948 squad finished the season with a record of 6-4-1 for Coach Red Drew.
