Alabama vs.Miami

  Alabama vs. Miami With one game remaining in the 1941 regular season the Crimson Tide needed a victory and they needed it bad if they wanted to stay in the hunt for the National Championship and they did just that defeating the Miami Hurricanes 21-7 down in Miami. In the first quarter Jimmy Nelson recieved a punt on his own 10 yard line which he returned all the back back to the Miami five yard line. After being stopped for three players Russ Craft ran it in the rest of the way to give Alabama a 7-0 advantage. Miami answered on their next possession to tie the game but on the next Tide possession they answered right back where Dave Brown ran 28 yards for the Tide second touchdown which gave them a 14-7 lead. In the third quarter Alabama added the insurance marker with a 12 yard Nelson touchdown run. The fourth quarter saw a series of punt that kept both teams pinned deep in their own ends and with the win the Tide was off to face Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl. The 1941 squad finished the season 9-2 as National Champions after a victory in the Cotton Bowl for Coach Thomas.
