  Alabama vs. Auburn Alabama gained an amazing 510 yards of total offense in the 1970 edition of the Iron Bowl, but 6 turnovers cost the Tide the game, 33-28. Bama would take a 17-0 lead in the first after scoring on a 14 yard Johnny Musso touchdown run, a 31 yard Scott Hunter touchdown pass to David Bailey, and on a 26 yard Richard Ciemny field goal. Auburn would then score the next 17 points to tie up the game going into the fourth quarter. In this final period, the Tigers would outscore Bama 16-11 to win the game. In the fourth, Ciemny would hit a 27 yard field goal and Hunter would throw a 54 yard touchdown pass to George Ranger to close the Tide's scoring. The 1970 squad finished with a record of 6-5-1 along with a tie in the Bluebonnet Bowl for coach Bryant.
