  Alabama vs. Miami All the Tide needed to do was defeat the Miami Hurricanes in Miami to secure a trip to the Sugar Bowl and they did just that winning going away 21-6. Miami struck first but the Red Elephants stormed back scoring 21 unanswered points. Harry Gilmer scored the first touchdown on the afternoon with a pass to Rebel Steiner and Alabama was up 7-6 at halftime. In the second half Gilmer scored for the second time, this time with a short run and the final Tide score came off of a Jim Cain blocked punt. 1947 squad finished the season 8-3 with an apperance in the Sugar Bowl for Harold "Red" Drew in his first season at the Capstone.
