  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi This game was cancelled earlier in the season as a result of the September 11, 2001, attacks, and was made up a week after the Auburn game in a rain soaked Legion Field. With this 28-15 victory over the Golden Eagles, the Tide became bowl eligible after starting the season with a record of 3-5. In the second, Andrew Zow would hit Sam Collins for a 14 yard touchdown reception. In the third, Bama would score on a 40 Ahmaad Galloway touchdown run, a safety, and on a 26 yard Zow touchdown pass to Freddie Milons. Galloway would close the Tide's scoring with his 11 yard touchdown run in the fourth. The 2001 squad would finish with a record of 7-5 and with a victory in the Independence Bowl in coach Dennis Franchione's first season as head coach of the Tide.
